Ristorante Archimede
About This Spot
Stepping into Ristorante Archimede is like settling into a quiet corner of Rome’s everyday rhythm, just a few steps away from some of the city’s busiest streets. Nestled in Piazza dei Caprettari, this Roman restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere where conversation flows easily and plates arrive with an unpretentious nod to tradition. The pace here is relaxed, the hum of local life blending with the soft clinking of glasses and the occasional laughter from neighboring tables.
Inside, the space feels comfortable and thoughtfully arranged—ample room to sit back without feeling rushed or crowded, a subtle but important detail that makes dining here linger-worthy. It’s the kind of place where the staff greet you with genuine warmth, taking the time to remember returning guests and share moments that feel more personal than transactional.
The kitchen honors Roman culinary roots with dishes that speak softly but confidently: handmade pasta dressed with the simplicity and depth of classics like cacio e pepe or spaghetti alla carbonara, fresh seafood centering the plate with understated elegance, and rich, seasonal vegetables that remind you of the market’s bounty. These aren’t just meals, but invitations to savor the local terroir and time-honored techniques, paired thoughtfully with a glass of regional wine that feels right at home in your hand.
Being here means embracing the everyday pleasures of Roman dining—no rush, no fuss, just the quiet joy of authentic flavors in a setting where locals and travelers mingle comfortably. Whether you’re sinking into a creamy tiramisù or enjoying fritto misto that’s tender and crisp alike, the experience is grounded in a genuine connection to place and people. It’s the kind of spot that feels both welcoming and familiar, where the food is honest and the company—whether friends old or new—makes every visit worth returning to.

Emilio. That’s the reason we’ll go back — and of course for the wonderful food at a fair price. When searching for the right spot, my priorities were clear: *** I wanted an authentic Roman restaurant within walking distance of our hotel, one that served true Roman cuisine and wasn’t overrun with tourists.*** Around lunchtime, I stumbled across this gem and noticed many locals enjoying their meals — always the best sign. I stepped inside to learn more, and saw even more locals! So after a quick greeting and a few words with Emilio, I knew immediately this was where we’d go for dinner. That evening, with dear friends flying in from California for their first night in Rome, the stakes were high — I wanted their welcome dinner to be memorable. I had requested a quaint table best suited for our group of six, and Emilio delivered. His personality shined throughout the evening, embodying why Italians are frequently known as the world’s most passionate hosts when it comes to sharing food and wine. We all selected widely different items from the menu, AND you know a dish is truly good when everyone insists others around the table taste it. But it was Emilio’s engaging hospitality that made the night unforgettable. **Many thanks, Emilio and staff — from all six of us. We’ll be back.**

We had Roman artichokes and pasta cecci and it was so good we had to come back a few days later to have it again! Staff are so friendly and lovely and remembered us from earlier in the week and that always adds to a great experience. Highly recommend

Cannot recommend this place enough! The food was the best and most authentic we ever had in Rome. We came here for lunch after visiting the Pantheon and were very impressed! The carbonara was delicious and the salmon was perfectly cooked! The team was so polite and the owners even came out to greet us. 10/10! Do not skip this place while you’re in town

Real food done well in a picture postcard setting. No queues. Prices are good. Don’t fall for the Instagram/travel bloggers recommended places. Take a couple of streets over and come here.

The staff is genuinely nice food is very very good. It’s a hang out for the local senators politicians. Lots of locals and lots of tourists who sit outside. It’s not expensive especially given the quality. They’re a table cloths and they don’t force you to sit close to the table next to you. The chairs are comfortable and there is lots of room if you are a big guy like me. We have eaten there maybe 10 times in as many years and this last time the manager or owner, or some sort of VIP gave us personal attention, and made us feel special, but he did that with everyone. The same two waiters who have taken care of us in the past we’re also there. I posted a picture of the VIP and myself and edited out my wife. My wife had pasta carbonara with egg and I had pasta with cheese and pepper. We had the house wine or that the VIP suggested and it was great. If you go to this place, you will have a great time and enjoy the food and the staff will make you feel special .

Perfect location but also a bit quiet and off the beaten path. Servers and staff top notch. Typical fare but above most tourist area quality. Middle ground expense but above average ambiance. Had the fungi ravioli, clam spaghetti, house white wine and mixed salad. All well prepared. Would go again.

This is actually the second time I’ve been to this restaurant (first time in 2018) and it still is one of the best places in Rome! Try it and you will be amazed!
